“The Passover Plot”

“God’s Plan For The Ages”

When Jesus the Messiah rode into Jerusalem that day on the back of a young colt, as it had been predicted centuries before (Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 21:1-10), few people knew what would happen in the next few days. The common people wanted Him as their Welfare King” and to deliver them from Roman oppression (John 6:15; Luke 2:1). But the religious leaders had other plans in their minds. Jesus was a threat to their authority and power and they were looking for a way to put Him to death (John 5:18; 7:1, 19). Pilate, the governor, knew that it was because of envy that they had brought Jesus to him to be crucified (Matthew 27:18).

Plot. While sinful men were plotting His death, the Godhead’s plan for the ages was being carried out on earth right on time according to God’s schedule (Ephesians 1:11; Galatians 4:4; Luke 22:53). Had sinful men known what God was doing to provide a Savior for mankind, they wouldn’t have killed Jesus (1 Corinthians 2:7, 8). He, as the God-man (John 1:1-18), would still be here on earth looking for someone to kill Him so He could die for our sins and rise again bodily from the dead.

Responsible. God holds all mankind responsible for the death of Christ, not just the Jews (Acts 3:13-15; 4:27, 28). This includes you and me. We don’t believe in Replacement Theology” which teaches that the Church has replaced the nation of Israel and that the Church can claim the promises that God gave exclusively to the Jewish, believing remnant (Genesis 15:18-21; Matthew 5:5; Romans 9:27; 11:1-6). This false belief will grow greater and greater and will lead to the time of Jacob’s trouble” known also as the Great Tribulation” during the last ½ of the 7 years of Tribulation on earth (Jeremiah 30:7; Matthew 24:15ff). This event may be a lot closer than you want to admit. Where will you be when it happens? Will you be caught up (raptured) before it happens or left behind to enter it (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17)? For whom was this time meant? Are you sure?

Purpose. God’s ultimate purpose is to glorify Himself by making Himself known to His creatures (John 17:3ff). He did this in the Old Testament by the miracles He performed through various individuals – bringing the 10 plagues on the Egyptians (Exodus 7ff), parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21), providing food, water, and quails for the Jews to eat in the wilderness for 40 years (Exodus 16:13, 15; 17:6), etc. He is being glorified today through the transformed lives of those who place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for our sins…and rose again bodily from the dead on the third day (Romans 12:1, 2). This plan included God’s decision to –

Create. Before God created out of nothing the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:16, 17), He created spirit beings: cherubs (Ezekiel 28:12-14), seraphs (Isaiah 6:2), and angels (Colossians 1:16, 17; Ephesians 2:12). These spirit beings shouted joyfully as they suddenly saw what God had done (Job 38:7). It was from the earth that Lucifer ruled under God over all other spirit beings each of whom has a mind, will, and emotions (Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:12ff). While spirit beings are not normally visible to human beings, they are to each other. Satan (Lucifer) appears as an angel of light to deceive the good angels who didn’t follow him in his rebellion against God (2 Corinthians 11:14). His human agents on earth (false prophets and false teachers) also deceive many people and keep them from knowing the true and living God (1 Thessalonians 1:9; John 1:1-18; 14:6).  He tries to keep them from placing their faith exclusively in the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation. They teach another Christ and another Gospel. Many people want to contribute to their salvation by their good works. It can’t be done (Ephesians 2:8, 9; Titus 3:5). We don’t know how long it was after Lucifer’s rebellion that God formed man out of the dust of the ground and breathed into him the breath of lives – physical and spiritual (Genesis 1:27; 2:7). We all descended from Adam and Eve. Your only other choice is to believe the lie of evolution. It takes too much faith to believe that we came into existence this way. God also –

Gave Opportunities. We all love to be given choices. Lucifer was given a choice to remain in submission to God or to try to place his throne above God’s throne and act independently of God (Isaiah 14:14; Ezekiel 28:16, 18). He chose the latter and drew one third of the lower categories of angels with him in his rebellion against God (Isaiah 14:14; Ezekiel 28:12ff ; Revelation 12:3, 7; Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 1:16). God also gave Adam and Eve a choice to eat or not to eat of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17). We don’t know how long it was before Satan used the serpent to tempt Eve to eat of this fruit (Genesis 3:1ff; Revelation 12:9). Did animals miraculously speak to humans on occasions (See Numbers 22:28ff)?  Those who deny God’s and Satan’s abilities to perform miracles (i.e. the circumvention of the normal laws of nature) don’t understand the power of God or the limited power of the devil. Jesus performed many miracles while He was here on earth (John 20:31). So did His disciples (Matthew 10:1; Mark 16:17, 18; Acts 3:7). Satan and his agents on earth, when allowed by God, can also perform miracles (Exodus 7:11, 12, 22; 8:7; 2 Thessalonians 2:9). Mankind has a choice as to whether they will accept God’s Simple Plan Of Salvation” by grace alone through faith alone in Christ of the Scriptures alone or to try to earn their way to heaven by their good works or by their faith plus their good works (John 3:16, 18, 36; Ephesians 2:8, 9). How are you hoping to enter heaven? Then God decided to –

Provide Salvation. If we got what we rightfully deserved to get, we’d all end up forever in the lake of fire with the devil and his angels (Romans 6:23; Matthew 25:41, 46). All of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God and His standard of perfection (Romans 3:10-23). No, we haven’t been as bad as we could be, but all of us are as bad off as we can be if we lack Christ’s righteousness and end up in hell (John 16:10). This righteousness of Christ is imputed to our account (Romans 4:4, 16) when we place our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Substitute and believe that His death was our death to sins, His burial was our burial, and His bodily resurrection was our resurrection. The Apostle Paul stated, I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20; See Romans 6:4). We do not believe that Christ only died for the elect but for all mankind (John 3:16; 6:37; 1 John 2:2). He even died for the sins of the false teachers who would never believe on him for their salvation (2 Peter 2:1). His death was sufficient for all, but the full benefits of His death are only extended to those who believe on Him for their salvation (1 Timothy 4:10). God never provided salvation for Satan or the fallen angels (Matthew 25:41, 46; Revelation 20:10). He also decided to –

Save Some.  Even though God has provided salvation for all mankind, He is not obligated to save everyone. The Scriptures don’t teach universalism. It suggests that eventually everyone, including the devil and demons will be saved and go to heaven. Some people honestly don’t want to go to heaven. If they were forced to go there, they wouldn’t be happy. They love darkness rather than light (John 3:19-21). They don’t want to have anything to do with God or His people (Psalm 2:1-12; 10:11). The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). Some folks object to God’s selection to save some out from among mankind to be the special recipients of His grace (Ephesians 1:4). This doctrine is not easy to explain or understand but it was something that the Apostle Paul taught even to some very young Christians (1 Thessalonians 1:4). He also wrote, So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy…Therefore [God] has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens” (Romans 9:16, 18). To those who don’t want to acknowledge the existence of God or His power, He often gives them up to do what they want to do and then holds them accountable for their perverted behavior (Romans 1:18-32). The unbeliever’s degree of suffering in hell will be determined at the Great White Throne before Judge Jesus (John 5:22; Revelation 20:11-15). We don’t want you to go there. That is why we try to speak the truth from God’s Word to you with love (Ephesians 4:15). Once you die, your eternal destiny is determined and it cannot be changed. There are no back doors into heaven after you’ve paid for your sins in a purging place. God also wanted to –

Display His Love, Grace, Mercy. Yes, God is love” (1 John 4:8). But we can’t turn this around and say Love is God.” The original Greek language in which the New Testament was written prohibits this. Agape love is only one of God’s attributes and must be balanced with His righteousness and holiness (2 Timothy 4:8; Isaiah 6:3). False teachers are misleading many people right into hell by telling them that since God is love He would never send anyone to hell. But those who refuse His offer of salvation condemn themselves to the lake of fire (John 3:16, 18, 36). Even those in remote parts of the earth can come to the realization from nature that there is a God who is powerful (Romans 1:20). Should they accept natural revelation (Psalm 19:1), God would see to it that they received the Good News concerning Christ’s death for their sins…and His bodily resurrection so they could believe in Him through the Gospel and be saved. God never saves anyone apart from personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ through the Gospel (Ephesians 2:8, 9; Romans 1:16). We can’t be saved for someone else by proxy as one cult falsely teaches by twisting Paul’s words concerning baptism for the dead (1 Corinthians 15:29; See 2 Peter 3:15, 16). The unbelievers who end up in the lake of fire will admit that God did what was right in sending them there (Philippians 2:11; Revelation 4:8; 15:3). Folks, hell is no joke. Do what the Apostle Peter said, …make your call and election sure” (2 Peter 1:10; See John 3:16; 6:37).

The Crucifixion. – God’s plan for the ages was being carried out just as He ordained it even as Jesus was being crucified on the cross (Isaiah 53). It was God’s way of demonstrating His love for mankind and providing salvation to those who couldn’t/can’t save themselves (John 3:16). Jesus, the Just One was dying for all of us the unjust ones (1 Peter 3:18; Romans 3:10-23; 5:8). Jesus satisfied God’s outraged holiness against our sin nature and our sins (1 John 2:2; 4:10). He even died for false teachers who would never put their faith in Him (2 Peter 2:1). Without His death for our sins…and His bodily resurrection, none of us could be saved (Romans 4:25). The penalty had to be paid before the gift of salvation and eternal life could be offered to us (Romans 6:23). Have you received it by faith? If not, why not now?
