“Behind The Scenes”

Posted: July 8, 2017 in Holocaust, Replacement Theology

His name is not mentioned in the book and yet God’s unseen hand was constantly at work in the events that took place in this suspense filled story to preserve the Jews from annihilation. National intrigue, an attempted assassination, and political unrest fill its pages.

Sovereign. But throughout the story, one can see the sovereign hand of God at work. God hasn’t abandoned the Jewish nation. Today, the Jews, as a nation, have been set aside temporarily and spiritually blinded until “the fullness of the Gentiles has come in” (Romans 11:1, 25). The “Church” hasn’t replaced Israel as is being taught in many churches these days. Today God is taking a few folks from the Jewish community and more from the Gentile community and making those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ through the message of the Gospel one new creation known as “The Church which is His [spiritual] Body” (Ephesians 1:22, 23; 2:14, 15; 5:32;1 Corinthians 12:12, 13).

Consternation. Try to imagine how this young Jewish girl, Esther must have felt as she entered the “Miss Persia” beauty contest without others knowing about her Jewish heritage. God was working on her behalf and was going to see to it that she would be chosen by the king and made the queen in place of Vasthi (Esther 1:19). After all, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes” (Proverbs 22:1). Furthermore, “…the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, [and] gives it to whomever He will, And sets over it the lowest of men” (Daniel 4:17).

Plot. When wicked Haman, the Agagite (Esther 3:1; See 1 Samuel 15:8) tried to annihilate all the Jews because Esther’s cousin, Mordacai wouldn’t bow down to him, she endangered her own life to preserve God’s people, the Jews. When Haman’s diabolical plot was discovered, she called for fasting among the Jews as a sign of their humility before God. This reminds me of another promise that God gave to the Jews. “If my people [the Jews] who are called by name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Humility. It goes a long way with God. After all, what do we have that wasn’t given to us (1 Corinthians 4:7)? The pride of race, place, and face shouldn’t be named among believers. “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10). By the way, the ten commands found in James 4:7-10 are not how an unsaved person receives saving grace as one author suggests. This instruction was given to those who were already saved to help them in their Christian growth and the outworking of their faith (See Philippians 2:12; Ephesians 2:10).

Praise. As we remind ourselves of God’s sovereignty, let us meditate on this quality of God and read what the Psalmist said. God wants us to “Be still and know that [He alone is] God; [He] will be exalted among the nations, [He] will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10). This day may come a lot sooner than most believers think. Are you eagerly anticipating Christ’s any moment return (John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)? Believers can earn the “Crown of Righteousness” by loving His appearing (2 Timothy 4:8). Will you be one of them?
