“The End Is Near! Really? Which One?”

Perhaps you’ve seen pictures of a guy, looking like a hippie in a robe, holding a sign that says, “Repent, the end is near!” If you’re a younger person, you may not know what a hippie is.

Hippies. They were associated with the subculture of the day and often had long hair and beards, and many of them took hallucinogenic drugs. They were called flower children, beatniks, free spirits who were nonconformists and dropouts. The sad thing is that today many of these same people are executives in companies and even in the government.

John The Baptist. Perhaps you might think of John the Baptist as a hippie. He was the one who introduced Jesus to the Jews. His clothes were made of camel’s hair and he had a leather belt around his waist. His food consisted of locusts and wild honey (Matthew 3:4). He preached a message in the wilderness saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens is at hand” (Matthew 3:2). This took place when Jesus came on the scene and offered Himself as the rightful King of the Jews (Matthew 1:1 ff; 2:2; 27:11 ). But because most of the Jews rejected Him (John 1:11, 12), He postponed the setting up of His kingdom on earth until a future date (Matthew 23:37-39; See Daniel 2:44, 45). Believe it or not, it could be here within seven years from now?

Gap. Currently we’re living in a parenthetical period of time known as the “Dispensation of Grace” (Ephesians 3:1 ff) when God is dealing mostly with those who aren’t Jews. Once all those whom God the Father has given to God the Son (the Lord Jesus Christ) have come to Him and been saved (John 6:37; See Romans 11:25), the Lord will come back for the true Church and make it His Bride (Ephesians 5:25). We will meet Him in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Then He will take us to the place that He has been preparing for all true Christians (John 14:1-3; See Revelation 21:9 ff). This event is known as “The Rapture.” Will you be in this group?

Trouble. Shortly after this takes place, God’s time clock with the Jews will start up again (Romans 11:1 ff). It will being with seven years of tribulation during which time over ½ of the world’s population will die (Revelation 6:8; 9:18). All this was predicted by the prophet Daniel and the Apostle John (Daniel 9:27; See Revelation 6-19).

Kingdom. Then Jesus will come back to this earth, defeat all His enemies, and establish His 1,000 reign over this earth as the King of kings, and Lord of lords (Revelation 19: ; 20: ). To learn more about this read “The Order Of Things To Come.” [1]

The End. When someone talks about “the end,” we need to ask him which end is he talking about? It might refer to a person’s life, a nation’s life or many other things. We came into existence when we were conceived (Psalm 51:5; 139:13). The end of our physical existence on earth could happen at any moment. Our lives are likened to a vapor that appears for a little while and then that vanishes away (James 4:14). So, let’s not boast about tomorrow (Proverbs 27:1). Treat each day as though it might be your last day on earth, or the last day of someone you love or know. Our nation came into existence in 1776. Is it about to come to its end? Are we about to lose our “constitutional republic” and have it replaced by “democratic socialist/communist” government or some other less desirable form of government? By the way, any form of government is better than anarchy and lawlessness. How close are we to the arrival of the “New World Order” that many people are talking about? Why do they want it? Who will rule over it?

Future. Everyone has everlasting life (existence). We will either spend it in God’s presence or we will be separated forever from Him in the lake of fire (Matthew 25:30, 41, 46). The Scriptures don’t teach the annihilation of the wicked, or a person’s reincarnation. Not everyone has “eternal life” (i. e. God’s quality of life as a present possession – John 3:16, 18, 36; 1 John 5:11-13). Do you have it? If so, are you living in such a way that others see a difference in your life that enables them to learn something about the true and living God (James 2:18-20; Romans 12:1, 2; 1 Corinthians 10:31)?

The Gospel In A Nutshell”

My friend, you and I are sinners.

But Christ died for our sins…and rose again bodily.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone and you will be saved.

Have you done this? If not, do it now!
