“The Blame Game”

Posted: July 8, 2021 in Uncategorized

The late comedian Flip Wilson (1933-1998), who often played the fictional, feisty, female role of Geraldine Jones, used to say, “The Devil made me to it,” and made his audiences laugh at his jokes.

But contrary to what many people think about the devil, he is a real person (a spirit being) who tempted Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, and then getting her husband, Adam to eat of it too. This is when all of man’s problems began. Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the devil instead of taking personal responsibility for their own behavior. But the sin nature we inherited from them, through our parents, is responsible for most of our lawless (sinful) behavior today. But what is sin?

“Sin is lawlessness.” 1 John 3:4

God determines what sin is and what isn’t. He makes the requirement(s) for salvation and for daily living. [1]

Sin is against God, and acting as though He hasn’t placed any restrictions on us.

“Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin / Each victory will help you or some others to win.
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue / Look ever to Jesus and He’ll carry you through…”

Al Green

To Be Delivered From Eternal Condemnation, An Unsaved Person Must –

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone, Who died for his/her sins, Who was buried,

and Who rose again bodily on the third day, and he/she will be saved.”

Acts 16:31; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Ephesians 2:8, 9

Memorize & Meditate On This Often

Sin will take you farther than you want to go.

Sin will keep you longer than you want to stay.

Sin will cost you more than you want to pay.

Our Response To Trials And Temptations

“My brethren [fellow Christians], count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires [lusts] and enticed. Then, when desire [lust] has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” – James 1:2-8, 12-15

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” – 1 Corinthians 10:13

God doesn’t want His children to sin. But He knows that we will sin periodically.

“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation [satisfaction] for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.” – 1 John 2:1, 2

When we [Christians] sin, we need to “… confess our sins [to God the Father]. When we do this, “He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9 [2]

As Christians, Our Temptations To Sin Come From Three Sources: [3]

The Devil [4]

To overcome the temptations that the devil hurls at believers, we must be sober and vigilant (1 Peter 5:8). Then we must submit to God and resist the devil after the whole armor of God has been put on mentally (James 4:7; Ephesians 6:10-17). It is our understanding that there are 14 specific temptations that the devil and/or demons hurl at our minds. Each piece of the armor is designed to counteract specific temptations.

Our Own Sin Nature [5]

To overcome the temptations that come from our sin nature, a believer must understand that the works of the flesh are all perversions of good things (Galatians 5:19-21). But as long as a believer walks (orders his/her life) by means of God the Holy Spirit, it is impossible to succumb to the temptations that come from the sin nature. We must “reckon [ourselves] to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:11; Galatians 5:16, 25). We are told to flee youthful lusts (2 Timothy 2:22). God doesn’t want our sin nature to have dominion over us (Romans 6:14; See 1 John 2:1 ff). Those Christians who deny that they have a sin nature are deceiving themselves, not others (1 John 1:8; Romans 7:15-25).

The World System

To overcome the temptations from the present world system, we must first identify it as to what it is. It is a system, devised by the devil to appeal to the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride (vain glory) of life (1 John 2:15-17). It involves urbanization, human government, commerce, entertainment, education, industry, and senseless warfare (Genesis 4:16-24; See Luke 11:50, 51). While living here on earth, a believer may use the world system, but he/she is not to abuse it or love it by making it more important than God and His children (1 Corinthians 7:31; 1 John 2:15-17; 3:16, 17). We are citizens of heaven and we’re just passing through it on our way to heaven (Philippians 3:20).

We’re here to assist those who are teachable and willing to change (2 Timothy 2:2,15; 3:16, 17). If you have questions/comments, we invite you to contact us through our website at www.kelseypeach.com. Please SHARE this with others.
