Needed: Jesus Glasses

WWJD. These “What Would Jesus Do?” bracelets used to be quite popular with some Christians. They were used to start up a conversation with others about Jesus. But to do so, it’s important that we know who the Christ of the Scriptures is rather than the Christ of the cults. Which Jesus saves? [1]

To see our world and all that is in it more clearly, many of us need eye glasses. To see inside of our bodies, Doctors need X-ray equipment. To see things far away we need telescopes and microscopes to see very small things. To see into the future we need to turn to God’s infallible Word and interpret Bible prophecy [2] normally, historically, grammatically, and contextually as we do the rest of the Scriptures. One of the main reasons why we should believe the Bible is because of fulfilled prophecy. (See our Bible Study Book Marker & Dispensations Chart on our website.) [3]

But to see into the souls of people, with all their pains and struggles, we need “Jesus Glasses.” He saw people in their lost condition like sheep without a Shepherd. He offered Himself to them as their promised Messiah, but they didn’t recognize Him for Who He really was (John 1:11, 12). They wanted a political Deliverer, not a spiritual Savior from their sins. In fact, did you know that He turned down their offer to make Him their King because it would have been on their terms, not on God’s terms (John 6:15, 60-66; See Psalm 2)?

Just before He went to the cross to die for our sins…and rise again bodily on the third day, [4] Jesus looked over the city of Jerusalem and wept for the people (Jews) who rejected Him. He said, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! ‘See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’” (Matthew 23:37-39). This will happen at the end of the “Seven Years of Tribulation” or “The Time of Jacob’s [Israel’s] Trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7). [5] Believe it or not, these days seem to be just around the corner.

Questions

If you’re a Christian, when was the last time you wept over lost people, who are headed for the lake of fire to suffer forever with the devil and his angels/demons (Matthew 25:41, 46; Revelation 21:8)? Do you share the clear Gospel [4] with them on a regular basis or leave that up to the “professionals”? While most people will reject God’s offer of salvation because they love darkness rather than light (John 3:19), some will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior (John 1:12; 3:16, 18).

As He promised, He will return for His Body, the true Church (John 14:1-3), when all whom the Father has given to Him have come to Him and been saved, and have done some praiseworthy works (John 6:37, 44; 1 Corinthians 4:5). Are you ready for this event? Perhaps today!

Action Steps

If you haven’t placed your faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ alone, Who died for your sins, was buried, and Who rose again bodily on the third day, now is the time to do so. [4] There are no second chances to be saved from the lake of fire once you die physically (2 Corinthians 6:2; James 4:14; Hebrews 9:27). The Scriptures don’t teach reincarnation or the annihilation of the wicked dead as some cults teach.

Rather than living if fear during these uncertain days, Christians can/should keep looking up while anticipating and loving the imminent arrival of Christ. If we, as believers, do this, we will receive the “Crown of Righteousness” (2 Timothy 4:8). We can also earn the “Crown of Rejoicing” for pointing people to Christ (1 Thessalonians 2:19, 20).

Whether we eat or drink, or whatever we do, our primary goal in life should be to glorify God by making Him known to others (1 Corinthians 10:31). Are you doing this? If not, why?
