“The Policeman’s Whistle”

We don’t hear it very often anymore. But when he uses it, we’re supposed to pay attention to what he has to say and do it (unless it’s an unlawful command – Acts 5:29). Sadly, many people today show disrespect for those in authority and act lawlessly. Lawlessness is sin. (1 John 3:4).

Sin has consequences. It will take us further then we want to go; it will keep us longer than we want to stay; and it will cost us more than we want to pay. (Memorize this and remind yourself of this when you’re tempted to sin. Remember, as the song says – the temptation itself isn’t a sin; it’s yielding to a sinful lust that becomes sin.)

Citizens. “Let every soul [individual citizen] be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God” (Romans 13:1).

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1). Students – be teachable and willing to change and grow (2 Timothy 2:2, 15; 3:16).

Christians. “Obey those [spiritual leaders] who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you” (Hebrews 13:17).

Teachers. “My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment” (James 3:1). We all shall give an account to God someday (Romans 14:12).

Anarchy. Imagine what life would be like if everyone did what was right in his own eyes without regard for anyone else. [1] Days like this took place before the flood of Noah’s day and God had to wipe them all off the face of the earth (Genesis 6:5). They also occurred when there was no king in Israel and gross immorality was rampant (Judges 20:6; 21:25). Life was almost unbearable. God’s Word predicted such days would also exist during the end times in which we now live (1 Timothy 4:1 ff; 2 Timothy 3:1 ff).

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;
Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20).

Rules. Every society needs rules to govern the citizens. God established human government for the benefit of people (Genesis 9:6). It has the right and responsibility to carry out capital punishment for certain crimes (Romans 13:4). Obviously, there are tyrants that rule over people. God often allows the basest of men to rule over others on a temporary basis (Daniel 4:17, 25).

Tourists. Different countries have different rules and you better know what they are if you plan to travel there. Being detained in some foreign countries is anything but pleasant.

BTW – God has different “Rules for Living” within the pages of the Scriptures that He has imposed on some or all of humanity. They are known as “Dispensations.” They are NOT different ways to be saved. We believe that we can identify seven of them. (See our FREE Bible Study Book Marker.) If you’re a Christian, are you living by the wrong set of Biblical rules? Contact us if you have questions.

The “Kingdom of the Heavens” (i.e. the rule of the heavens over the earth) is coming right after Satan’s man (“The man of sin” or “Antichrist”) has caused havoc on this earth for seven years. Christ’s Kingdom will last for 1,000 years. [2] These days seem to be just around the corner.

Decision. Your response to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bad News / Good News (Gospel) will determine your eternal destiny in heaven or hell. Please take time to read and/or listen to the presentations. [3]
