Many people are wondering what the Bible says about “Things To Come.”  We believe that the following information is the result of a normal interpretation of the Scriptures.  Take time to look up the verses used to confirm these truths in your mind.

The New Testament

Gospels.  The four Gospels present the Lord Jesus Christ from four viewpoints:  Matthew demonstrates that Jesus is the rightful descendant of King David and the legitimate King of the Jews (Matthew 1).  Mark’s Gospel presents Jesus as the Servant of the Lord (Mark 10:45; Isaiah 42:1-21; Zechariah 3:8).  Dr. Luke displays Him as the perfect Man (Luke 19:10).  John proves convincingly that Jesus is the God-man who came to save mankind from eternal damnation (John 1:1-18; 3:16; 20:31).

Acts.  Dr. Luke records the formation of the Church (made up of Jewish and Gentile believers – Ephesians 2:14-18; Galatians 3:28).  Jesus predicted He would build His church and that the gates of Hades would not prevail against it (Matthew 16:18).  It came into existence on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2) and will come to its completion at the time of the Rapture of the church (John 6:37; 14:1-3).  In the book of Acts we have the transition from the Law of Moses to a new way of living under grace principles (Acts 15:1-31; Romans 6:14; Ephesians 3:1-12).  Note:  The Church is a separate entity from Israel and may not claim their promises (1 Corinthians 10:32).  Israel is only temporarily set aside until the fullness of the Gentiles have come in (Romans 11:25).

Epistles. The next 21 books and letters (Romans-Jude) were written by the Apostles Paul, Peter, John, and by the two half brothers of Jesus, James, and Jude to give instructions on how Christians should live during the Dispensation of Grace (Ephesians 3:1-12).

Revelation. The Book of Revelation tells us about the future of the church, the nation of Israel, the Antichrist, the devil, demons, and the fate of unbelievers. It concludes with the creation of a new heavens and earth.

Add/Subtract.  Anyone who adds to or subtracts from the Scriptures needs to be well aware of the plagues that will come on them (Revelation 22:18).  The Apostle Peter makes it very clear that we have all that we need for life and godliness within the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments (2 Peter 1:3).  Does the church you attend add other books to the Bible or claim to receive new revelation (information) from God today?

Exodus.  God had used Joseph to preserve His chosen people, the Jews, in Egypt during a seven year famine that covered the whole world (Genesis 50:20).  Isolated by themselves in the land of Goshen, the Jews multiplied greatly.  A new Pharaoh feared them and wanted to keep them from siding with Egypt’s enemies in the event of a war.  So he ordered the Jewish baby boys to be killed so the remaining Jewish girls would be forced to marry Egyptians and thus lose their unique identity as Jews (Exodus 1).

Moses.  After spending many years as slaves in Egypt, God used Moses to deliver His people from bondage.  The ten plagues brought the Egyptians to their knees and Jehovah God demonstrated to them that He alone was/is the true and living God (Exodus 5-12).

Sinai.  Moses led the Jews through the Red Sea to Mount Sinai where they received the Ten Commandments from God (Exodus 20).  Even before they knew what would be required of them, the Jews presumptuously said, “All that the Lord has spoken we will do” (Exodus 19:8).  History records for us that they didn’t keep God’s commandments which led to their being dispersed among the nations (Deuteronomy 28).  But God will bring them back to the land that He promised to give to them as an everlasting possession (Genesis 15:18-20).  His initial rule over them will last for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-6; Isaiah 2:4; 9:6, 7; Zechariah 14) after they have gone through “The time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7; Daniel 9:27) known also as the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21; Revelation 6-19).

Spies.  Moses then led the Jews to a place called Kadesh Barnea and sent twelve men to spy out the land in which the wicked Canaanites lived. When the spies came back they reported that it was a land flowing with milk and honey.  But they informed the people that their cities were fortified and that there were giants in the land. Two of the spies said, “We can take the land.”  Ten said, “No we can’t.” So they had a congregational meeting, to determine whether or not to posses the land. The people voted, and said, “No, we won’t go.”  God said, “Because you voted no, all those twenty years old and upward will die in the wilderness” (Numbers 13, 14).

Wilderness.  So, for forty years the Jews wandered around until all those twenty years old and older died in the wilderness.  This meant that one person died about every twenty minutes for the next 38 years.  Then Moses led them to Mt. Pisgah where he also died (Deuteronomy 34:5).  Do you know why he didn’t enter the Promised Land at that time (Numbers 20:7-13)?

Joshua.  He was appointed by God to lead the people of Israel across the Jordan River into the Promised Land, where he divided the land among the twelve tribes.  It was time for the wicked people living in Canaan to be displaced by the Jews (Genesis 15:16).  Rahab, the harlot, and her family were spared because they believed in the God of the Jews (Joshua 2).  She became an ancestress of Jesus (Matthew 1:5).

Judges. After this, the nation of Israel went through a period of seven social, spiritual, and economic ups-and-downs under the Judges. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes and things really got ugly and very bad toward the end of this period (Judges 19-21).

King. Then the children of Israel said, “We don’t want any more judges. We want a king like the nations around us” (1 Samuel 8:5).  There were three kings that ruled over all Israel: Saul, David, and Solomon. Because of the sin of Solomon, the kingdom was divided. There were ten tribes in the north known as “Israel.” Their capital was Samaria. Two tribes were in the south. They were known as “Judah.”  Their capital was at Jerusalem.

722 B.C.  This is when Shalmaneser, the King of Assyria, took the ten tribes of the north into captivity (2 Kings 18:9-11). They were dispersed among the provinces of Assyria and never heard from again.  Although they have been called “The lost tribes,” God knows where all of them are and will bring them back to the Promised Land some day (Ezekiel 36, 37).

605 B.C. Then Nebuchadnezzar came from Babylon and took the two tribes from the south into captivity. They were there for seventy years. After this period of time, Ezra and Nehemiah led about 50,000 Jews back to Jerusalem with the approval of Cyrus, king of Persia (Ezra 1:1).  They rebuilt the city walls, their houses, the temple, and re-established the worship of Jehovah.  And this is the chronological end of the Old Testament.

Silence.  There were no messages from God for the next 400 years until the angel Gabriel announced to a Jewish priest by the name of Zacharias that his wife, Elizabeth would have a son who would be the forerunner of the promised Messiah (Luke 1:5-25) as predicted by the prophet Malachi (3:1).  Six months later Gabriel was sent to the virgin Mary to announce to her that she would be the mother of the Messiah (Luke 1:26-38) as predicted by the prophet Isaiah (7:14; 9:6, 7; Matthew 1:23).

The Jews, like everyone else, are human beings with strong feelings. They are not pigs, monkeys, or rats to be exterminated as some of their combative relatives believe and teach to their children. The animosity and hatred between Abraham’s sons Ishmael, Isaac, and his six other sons by Keturah (Genesis 25:2), and between Isaac’s sons Esau and Jacob has been going on for about 4,000 years. Our politicians, who think they can force a peace agreement between these groups, need a good lesson in the history of these people to discover why they act as they do (Genesis 16:11, 12). This information is recorded for us in the Scriptures that are God-breathed and accurate (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; John 17:17).

Scriptures.  The Bible tells us in words what God wants us to know.  Some of the Scripture is truth to be believed, and other parts are truths to be believed and practiced (2 Timothy 2:15; Titus 1:9).  Those who don’t interpret the Bible normally (literally, historically, grammatically) will not be able to make much sense of the Bible.  It will seem contradictory.  To help you understand the divisions in Scripture, ask for our FREE “Dispensational Chart.”  It could help answer a lot of questions you have about the Bible.

Hated.  Ever since God selected Abraham to be the special recipient of His grace and through whom He would bless the nations (Genesis 12:1-3), the devil and his agents have tried to contaminate and/or exterminate them (Revelation 12:1-6). God graciously chose Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and his twelve sons to be the ones through whom the Messiah would come (Genesis 3:15; 22:18; 49:10), and through whom the Scriptures would be given to mankind (Deuteronomy 4:5-8; Romans 3:1, 2; 2 Peter 1:19-21).

Land.  God strategically placed them in a land where several continents converge.  As these people from Gentile nations passed through their land, the Jews were to be a witness to the unity of God in the midst of universal idolatry (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43;10-12).  They were supposed to illustrate to all the nations the blessedness of serving the true and living God (Deuteronomy 33:26-29; 1 Chronicles 17:20, 21; Psalm 144:15).

Displaced.  But the Jews failed in their mission and became like the heathen nations around them.  Consequently, God delivered them into the hands of their enemies (the Assyrians and the Babylonians).  The southern two tribes were in captivity in Babylon for 70 years and then were allowed, by a Persian (Iranian) king (Ezra 1:1-11; Nehemiah 2:1-8), to return to the land that God had given to them in an unconditional covenant (Jeremiah 25:11, 12; Daniel 1:1, 2; Genesis 15:18-21).  Those who would like to take this land from them need to be aware of God’s judgment that will befall those who persecute the Jews (Genesis 12:1-3).

Future.  One day, during the literal, millennial reign of Christ on/over the whole earth (Revelation 20:1-6), the meek, believing Jews, who survive the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:15-31), will possess all the land from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River (Matthew 5:5; Genesis 15:18-21).  They and believing Gentiles will repopulate the earth.  This day may soon be here.  There are many indicators that would suggest this as the world stage is being set up for the New World Order.

Feelings.  With all that has happened to the Jews over the last 4,000 years, it’s no wonder that they have mixed emotions.  Through Moses, God clearly spelled out to the Jews what would happen to them if they obeyed God’s Law or if they disobeyed it (Deuteronomy 28).  Today many Jews are agnostics and don’t know about or believe their other Jewish prophets who spoke of Israel’s final restoration to the land (Ezekiel 37-48; Isaiah 40-66; Jeremiah 30-33). A few claim to be atheists.  What does God say about them (Psalm 14:1)? Some are very suspicious and cautious toward other people including other Jews with different world views.  If I were a Jew, I might have some of these feelings:

Pride.  The religious Jews of Christ’s day were very proud of their ancestor Abraham while accusing Jesus of being illegitimate (John 8:33, 41).  Some false teachers today discredit Jesus and don’t believe in His virgin birth either.  Before his conversion, Saul (Paul) was pretty impressed with his own resume (Philippians 3:4-6; Acts 22:3-5). Some Jews thought that God chose them because of their exceptional qualities. But Moses wrote: “The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep His oath which He swore to your fathers…” (Deuteronomy 7:7-11). Jeremiah reminded them that their heart was/is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:10-23). Isaiah told them that their self righteous works were like filthy rags in God’s sight (Isaiah 64:6). Jews and non-Jews have been and always will be saved from eternal condemnation by God’s grace through faith in Him (Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:3; Ephesians 2:8, 9; Titus 3:5).  Abraham was saved when he believed God who said that He would give him a son in his old age (Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:3).  Today, people are saved when they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ who He died for all our sins…and rose again bodily on the third day (Acts 16:31; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4).  Have you placed your faith in Him alone for your salvation?  Are you depending on your good works too?  If so, stop!

Shame.  Abraham was a great man of faith (Hebrews 11:8-19).  But he lied about his wife Sarah on two occasions. He thought his own life was in danger when Pharaoh and later Abimelech wanted to take her into their harems (Genesis 12:10-20; 20:2). Isaac did the same thing (Genesis 26:7). Jacob was known for his scheming and lied to get the birthright from his older twin, Esau (Genesis 27:24). Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, engaged in a despicable act (Genesis 35:22). Judah, through whom the Messiah was to come (Genesis 49:10; Matthew 1:3), got involved in incest and harlotry (Genesis 38:15-26). King David committed adultery and murdered Bathsheba’s husband (2 Samuel 11). And yet God forgave him when he confessed his sins (Psalm 51).  God’s grace is truly amazing (Ephesians 2:8, 9).  Have you responded to it?

Fear.  When Haman tried to exterminate the Jews, Esther (the Jewish queen and wife of the Persian king Ahasuerus), pleaded with the other Jews to fast for three days lest they be wiped out of existence (Esther 3:6; 4:16). In more recent history, the Jews lived in constant fear of being annihilated during the holocaust in Germany. They still are facing those who want to wipe them off the face of the earth. It’s extremely sad to think that there are those within Christendom who believe that there is no future for the nation of Israel.  They falsely believe and say that the Church has taken over the promises that were given to the Jews.  This is called “Replacement Theology.”  Don’t believe it. God has a very bright future in store for the believing Jewish remnant who will survive the time of Jacob’s trouble, known as “The Great Tribulation” (Romans 9:27; Isaiah 2:4; 11:1-16; 35:1-10; Jeremiah 30:7; Matthew 10:22; 24:21).  You won’t want to be on earth when this happens.  Do you know who will avoid these days?  Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11; Revelation 3:10.

Anger.  The prophet Jonah got angry at God for sending him to the wicked and cruel Ninevites to warn them of God’s judgment (Jonah 4). He didn’t want God to be merciful to them even though there were 120,000 small children in that city.  Sadly, there are some Jews who don’t want God to be merciful and gracious to anyone other than the Jews (Romans 9:14-24).  Thankfully God has been merciful to both Jews and Gentiles today but most of them have not responded to God with faith in Christ.  Are you angry at God?  If you are, why?

Fury.  One of Israel’s judges, Jepthah, the son of a harlot (Judges 11:1), became furious with his fellow Jews for ridiculing him after he had won a great victory for Israel. He slaughtered 42,000 Jews from the tribe of Ephraim who harassed him (Judges 12:6).

Rage.  The Jews who returned to Israel after their deportation to Babylon faced an angry crowd made up of Samaritans who were half Jewish and half Gentiles (non-Jews). Their lives were threatened as they rebuilt the walls around Jerusalem (Nehemiah 4:7, 8). Some have wondered whether the scourge of World War II may have had some Jewish blood in him.  Who or what motivated Hitler?  Was it the devil or a demon?  The devil took over Judas’ body as soon as he left the upper room, where Jesus and His disciples were observing the Passover, and went to the Jewish leaders to betray Jesus (John 13:27).  The Jewish leaders were engaged against Jesus for claiming to be God and the King of the Jews (John 5:16-18; 8:58, 59; 10:30, 31; Luke 19:14; 23:21).  The devil will empower the Antichrist when he takes control over the whole world after he is killed and raised back to life in the middle of the Tribulation (2 Thessalonians 2:7-10; Revelation 13:2-4).  Can people be demon possessed today?  What about Christians (2 Corinthians 6:14-18; John 14:17)?

Humility.  The Jewish virgin, Mary was deeply grateful for the honor of being selected to be the mother of the promised Messiah (Luke 1:26-33; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23). She was qualified in that she came from the line of King David through Nathan (Luke 3:31).  Joseph was the step father of Jesus and came from King Solomon, David’s son (Matthew 1:6). Mary felt unworthy and even acknowledged her own sinfulness, contrary to what one branch of Christendom teaches about her (Luke 1:26-38).

Excitement.  When Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, heard about Mary’s pregnancy, her baby leaped in her womb (Luke 1:41). Her husband, Zacharias the priest, delivered a benediction on Mary’s child (Luke 1:67-79). Anna the prophetess also gave thanks to the Lord for sending a Redeemer to Israel (Luke 2:38). At His second coming, the believing Jewish remnant will rejoice to see their Messiah’s coming to deliver them from annihilation by the Antichrist (Matthew 23:39; 24:15-31; Acts 1:11; Zechariah 12:8-10; Jude 1:14; Revelation 19:11-16).

Deliverance.  Today Jews and Gentiles are saved the same way. Paul, who had been a Jewish rabbi, wrote, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek” (Romans 1:16). The Gospel is that Christ died for our sins…and rose again bodily on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4). “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). We aren’t saved by our good works lest anyone should boast (Ephesians 2:8, 9).

Favor.  Would you help us get the meat of the Word out to others who may long for it?  Too many highly emotional and carnal people seek out teachers with itching ears who tell people what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear (2 Timothy 4:1-4).  We want to proclaim the truth with love (Ephesians 4:15).  If this article has helped you, would you let us know about it?

“War And Peace”

Posted: February 8, 2013 in Dispensations, Israel, Joshua, Promises

The history of the world is primarily the story of humanity’s cycle of failure, the rise and fall of one empire after another, one civilization after another.  Some people are wondering if our form of government is going by the way side.  Do you find it interesting that the United States is not specifically mentioned in Bible prophecy as are other countries and nations?

Utopia.  Man is trying his best to create a “Paradise” here on earth but he can’t seem to bring it to pass.  The proud, natural man wants to do all this without God’s help.  But Jesus said, “Without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).  The Prince of Peace was rejected about 2,000 years ago and He will be opposed again by the nations of this world when He returns to take them by force (Psalm 2; Zechariah 12, 14).

Dispensations.  They are periods of time in which God tests some or all of mankind with different rules to regulate their lives.  Contrary to what some people believe, they aren’t different ways to be saved and get to heaven.  There is only one way (John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8, 9), one Savior (Acts16:31), and one message to believe today if we want to be saved from hell and enter heaven (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4).  When the Bible is interpreted normally we discover that there are seven distinct sets of rules: Innocence, Conscience, Human Government, Promise, Mosaic Law, Grace, and Kingdom. (Ask how you can secure our FREE “Dispensational Chart.”)

War And Peace.  The book of Joshua in the Bible is a story of the Jewish people entering the land that God had promised to give to Abraham, Isaac,  Jacob, and their descendants (Genesis 15:13-21).  It’s a land from which they have been expelled several times because of their disobedience to God (Deuteronomy 28:15ff).  But all of it will be restored to the believing Jewish remnant when Jesus Christ returns to rule over this earth for 1,000 years as the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 19:16; 20:1-7).  Their land will extend from the River in Egypt to the River Euphrates.  God will keep this and all other covenants (promises) that He has made to the Jews and to Christians.  If the Jews don’t get all this land, then God is a liar and unworthy of our trust.

Timing.  When the iniquity of the Amorites was full (about 400 years after God made the promise to Abraham), God sent the Jews into the land to destroy those who refused to turn to God and believe in Him.  The people in Canaan (Palestine) knew about the true and living God and the miracles He had performed in Egypt and at the Red Sea (Joshua 2:9-11).  But they continued to live in sin and became morally depraved and physically infected from sexually transmitted diseases (Romans 1:18-32).  God couldn’t/wouldn’t allow their rebellion to go on forever.

Longsuffering.  God is very longsuffering and not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).  Judgment day is coming (Hebrews 9:27).  Now is the time to make peace with God (Romans 5:1).  Do you know how to do this correctly?  If not, ask us for help.

Encouragement.  Imagine going to war against some ten feet tall giants such as Goliath (Numbers 13:3; Joshua 12:4; 1 Samuel 17:4).  How could desert nomads conquer them and a fortified city?  The Jewish General Joshua knew that the job seemed impossible but he had confidence in the true and living God who had performed many miracles for the Jews in Egypt (10 plagues) and in the wilderness (water, manna, and quails). God assured Joshua of His continued presence with him just as He had been with Moses (Joshua 1:5).  With God on our side we can/will win the battle.

Foolish Plan.  Any military general today would consider the plan that God had given to Joshua to be utter nonsense.  They were to march silently around the city of Jericho one time each day for six days.  On the seventh day they were to march around the city seven times and then shout.  When they did this God brought down the walls of that well fortified city and the Jews went in and took it (Joshua 6).  God got the glory.

Travel.  If you would like to go back in time and travel with us and learn some valuable lessons from our study in the Book of Joshua, call us at 805-238-3549 to find out when and where we will be meeting.  There is no sense in our making the same mistakes that others have made and suffering the consequences of inappropriate conduct (1 Corinthians 10:11).  Christians can/do commit the “sin unto death” (1 John 5:16).  Do you know what it is?

Blogs.  Our “Web logs” are usually a summary of our Sunday talks.  We also try to have corresponding audio messages on the Internet. Visit our web site at

With all the fighting and wars going on all around the world today many people are asking, “Will we ever have peace on earth? What is in store for mankind in the future? Can we be sure? Believe it or not, peace and righteousness will prevail on earth for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:1-7). It might shock you to know that a believing Jewish remnant that survives the greatest holocaust yet to come will become the head nation on this earth (Deuteronomy 28:13). All this could happen before 2020 if the Rapture were to occur today (John 14:1-3). It is imminent. Are you ready for some dramatic things to happen very soon? With whom will you be standing?

Promised. If God doesn’t fulfill all His promises that He made to the Jews and to the Church the devil will have won the conflict of the ages. But thankfully Satan cannot win against God who is omnipotent. Jesus Christ, the God-man will crush all His enemies when He returns to earth to reign (Psalm 2; Revelation 12:9, 19:15).

Chronology. Before Jesus sets up His kingdom on earth, the Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17) and the seven years of  Tribulation have to occur (Daniel 9:27; 11:36-12:1; Jeremiah 30:7; Revelation 6-19). During the first half of the seven year Tribulation the Jews will be protected by the Antichrist while the non-Jewish nations will suffer under the seven seal judgments and the wrath of the Lamb – Jesus Christ (Revelation 6). In the middle of the Tribulation the archangel Michael and his angels will fight against the devil and his angels (demons) who will be thrown out of heaven to the earth (Revelation 12:7ff). He will seek to annihilate the Jews who will refuse to bow down to the image of the Antichrist that will be placed in the rebuilt Temple in Jerusalem (Revelation 13:15; Matthew 24:15).

Jacob. He was the younger twin brother who came from Isaac and Rebeka. God said that the younger brother would rule over the older twin brother (Genesis 25:23; Romans 9:12). Obviously this didn’t go over well with Esau. Neither did Ishmael the son of Abraham and Hagar the Egyptian like it when Isaac the son of Abraham and Sarah inherited the blessing from Abraham (Genesis 16, 17). This family feud has been going on for about 4,000 years and won’t be resolved until Jesus Christ returns to this earth (Isaiah 2:4).

Jews. Although despised by the devil and by many of their own relatives, the Jews were responsible for providing for us the Word of God and a Savior from sin (Romans 3:2; 2 Peter 1:21; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:21-23). No wonder the devil hates the Jews. But they are also responsible for many of the problems that they have brought on themselves. By rejecting their Messiah 2,000 years ago and having the Romans crucify Him, they brought His blood down on themselves and their descendants to this day (Isaiah 53:3; John 1:11; Matthew 27:25).

Judgment. During the second half of the seven year Tribulation the Jews apparently will suffer primarily under the seven trumpet judgments while the non-Jews will suffer most from the seven bowl judgments (Revelation 8:2ff; 16:1ff). It’s terrible but during this final seven year holocaust one half of the world’s population will die (Revelation 6:8; 9:15). By today’s figures, that’s about 3 ½ billion people. Will you be in that number? We sincerely hope not. You can escape this awful time of Tribulation (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 5:9; Revelation 3:10) if you will place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ who died for your sins…and rose again bodily on the third day. Do it today! We’re not saved by our good works (Ephesians 2:8, 9).

Annihilation? Absolutely impossible! Although two thirds of the Jews will die during the second half of the Tribulation (Zechariah 13:8) one third will be refined through the fire as silver. All the unbelieving rebels will be purged out just as the rebellious Jews were in the wilderness. They didn’t go in to the Promised Land. It extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River (Genesis 15:18). The believing Jewish remnant will get it all someday and become the head nation over all other nations (Deuteronomy 28:13). Resurrected King David will rule on this earth under the Lord Jesus Christ (the King of kings) and His bride, the true Church (Jeremiah 30:9: Revelation 19:16; 2 Timothy 2:12).

Resurrections. During the Old Testament times there was a very limited amount of information concerning the resurrection of the dead. Most Jews believed that there would be just one general resurrection at the end of time (Job 19:25, 27; Psalm 17:15; 49:15; John 11:24). But with additional New Testament information we know that there will be five distinct resurrections, not resuscitations. Those who suffer in this life don’t want to have their lives extended in sorrow and pain. But at the time of a believer’s resurrection he will receive a much better body than the one he now possesses (Revelation 21:4, 5; Daniel 12:2; Romans 8:23). Sadly the unbelievers will also be raised to stand before Jesus at the Great White Throne judgment to have their works evaluated by Him to determine their degree of the suffering in the lake of fire forever (Revelation 20:11-15; Matthew 25:30, 41, 46; John 5:22). No human being has to go there. Christ died for all the sins of all mankind including your sins and mine (1 John 2:2). He lives in heaven today to save anyone who will trust in Him alone for salvation (Hebrews 7:25).

Wise. The wise ones (the 144,000 Jews from the twelve tribes and the two Jewish witnesses – Revelation 7:5-8; 11:3ff) who live on earth during the Tribulation will warn others about the Antichrist. They will admonish them not to take the “Mark of the Beast” or they will be lost forever in hell (Revelation 13:18). For their faithful service to God they will receive a garment of light that shines like the brightness of the firmament and those who turn many to righteousness will receive a garment of light that shines like the stars (Daniel 12:3). Do you know what kind of garment of light Christians will receive? Read 1 Timothy 5:16; 1 John 3:2, 1 Corinthians 15:49.

Finished?  God is not finished with the Jewish people (Romans 11:1). His time clock with them will begin again when the “Antichrist” signs a seven year peace treaty with Israel (Daniel 9:27). This will happen after the Holy Spirit and the true Church have been removed from earth (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17).

Crown. If a Christian loves Christ’s imminent appearing (John 14:1-3) he will earn the crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8). This hope (confident expectation) will bring us happiness (Titus 2:13), help us maintain pure lives (1 John 3:3), and will comfort us when a believing loved one is taken from us to heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:18).

Peace. You can have peace with God if you’ll trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior (Romans 5:1). You can have the peace of God in the midst of your troubles if you are rightly related to God the Holy Spirit (Philippians 4:6, 7; Ephesians 5:18; Galatians 5:22, 23). Peace on earth will come at the time appointed by God the Father (Isaiah 9:6, 7).

When I was going to seminary in San Francisco, I was an associate pastor in “The Little Brown Church” by the sea in Pacifica, California.  Then I pastored a church in the valley in Delano, CA.  Today I enjoy pastoring a church in Paso Robles where we have beautiful hills to enjoy.  I often think of the words of the Psalmist who wrote, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills.  From whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1, 2).  Yes, He did (Genesis 1:1).  As I look out at the hills I realize that between the two peaks there is a valley that may be large or small.  When we get to the top of one peak we can see what is in the valley.

Foggy.  God gave the Old Testament prophets information (revelations) of things to come.  They failed to realize that between the two mountain peaks there were valleys where things would be going on.  They wrote about the coming of the Messiah and saw it as all happening continuously without any valley or break between His first coming and His second coming.  So far there has been about 2,000 years.  But not to worry – a day with God is like a 1,000 years to us (2 Peter 3:8, 9).  He’s long suffering and may be waiting for you to trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.  Think about that.

Illustration.  Jesus illustrated this for the people of His day when He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and read a portion from the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 61:1, 2).  But He didn’t read the whole section because He knew that the rest of Isaiah’s prophecy about Him would have to be fulfilled when He came back to earth a second time (Luke 4:18, 19).  They became very upset with Him and wanted to kill Him for saying that it referred to Him.

Progressive.  God didn’t reveal all the information in Scripture at one time.  It was written by about 40 authors over 1,500 years.  God the Holy Spirit superintended their writings to insure that what they wrote would be what God wanted us to know.  Amazingly, all the writers in the Bible point to the One whom the Scriptures called “Immanuel” – “God with us” (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23).

“The Word.”  Jesus Christ, the God-man, was the Spokesman for the Godhead (John 1:1-18).  He came to reveal to us humans what God is like.  After living a sinless life for 33 years, He died on a cross for our sins…and rose again bodily from the grave with a glorified, resurrected (not resuscitated) body (1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Luke 24:33-43).  Yes, His resurrected, glorified body in heaven has flesh and bones, but no blood (1 Corinthians 15:50).  Those who deny that Jesus Christ is coming back in the flesh (i.e. with a real body) are deceivers and antichrist (3 John 1:7; Zechariah 12:10).

Church.  The true Church was a mystery in the Old Testament (Ephesians 5:32).  It had its beginning on the Day of Pentecost 2,000 years ago (Acts 2).  It exists in the valley between the first and second coming of Christ.  It is made up of Jewish and Gentile believers in the Lord Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:15; Romans 1:16, 17).  When all whom God the Father has given to God the Son have come to Him, Jesus will come back to meet His Church in the air and take us to the home He has been preparing for us (John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 21:10ff).

Steward.  The Apostle Paul refers to himself as the steward (household manager) of this “Dispensation of Grace” (Ephesians 3:1-12).  He was the primary one who passed on to Christians the Grace principles that are found between John 13 and Revelation where we can find our “Rules for Conduct” for today.  (Dispensations are not different ways of salvation.)  Peter, John, James, and Jude gave supplemental information to us Christians.  We are not under the Old Testament rules – the Mosaic Law (Exodus 19-Matthew 12) or under Kingdom rules – the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7).  Those who try to live by them allegorize (change the meaning) the words of Jesus.  Who have you seen with an eye or hand missing to avoid his being cast into hell (Matthew 5:29, 30)?  See our “Dispensational Chart” for more information.

Clock. God’s time clock with reference to the Jews will start up again when the Antichrist confirms a 7 year peace agreement with the Jews after the Church has left earth (Daniel 9:27; Revelation 3:10).  The Gentiles (non-Jews) will suffer terribly under the 7 seal judgments during the first 3 1/2 years of the tribulation (Revelation 6). Then, in the middle of the 7 year tribulation, the Jewish people will enter into the “time of Jacob’s (Israel’s) trouble” when they refuse to worship the image of the Antichrist that will be set up in the rebuilt Temple (Jeremiah 30:7; Matthew 24:15ff).  All the nations of the world will come against the Jews to try to annihilate them in a place called Armageddon in northern Israel (Revelation 16:16).  They should forget it; it can’t be done (Psalm 2). Those who try will be doomed.

Salt.  The Jews are the salt (i. e. the preservers) of the earth (Matthew 5:13).  They are the reason the earth hasn’t been destroyed.  A believing Jewish remnant will survive the holocaust and enter Christ’s millennial kingdom to repopulate the earth along with some believing Gentiles – non-Jews (Matthew 24:13; 25:34-40).  Right now the Jewish people have been temporarily set aside until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in (Romans 11:1, 25).

Land.  God promised to give to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and their descendants the land that extends from the River in Egypt to the Euphrates River (Genesis 15:18).  They will get all of it when Christ returns to set up His 1,000 year kingdom on earth when peace finally will prevail (Isaiah 2:4; 11:1ff; 35:1ff; Revelation 20:1-7).

Timing.  Although we don’t know the exact day of Christ’s return, we do believe He said what He meant and meant what He said (John 14:1-3).  Do you belong to Him or are you still a child of the devil (John 8:44; 1 John 3:8-10).  You can be delivered out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13).

Method.  It’s quite simple.  Admit that you are a sinner who deserves to be separated forever from God (Romans 3:23; 6:23).  Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ who died for your sins…and rose again bodily from the grave (Acts 16:31; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8).  Don’t trust your good works to save you.  They can’t (Ephesians 2:8, 9).

“Interest in the occult and paranormal is on the rise today.  The movie industry has certainly capitalized on this heightened curiosity, not to mention the numerous television programs, newspaper columns, magazine articles, game manufacturers, and book publishers that have hyped these topics as well.  Unfortunately, the fragments of truth that are sometimes communicated about the demonic world are frequently lost amidst sensational stories and exaggerated remarks.  Consequently, many people have a distorted understanding of the satanic realm.”  C. R. Swindoll.

Reliable.  The Scriptures are a reliable source of information concerning the unseen world.   Daniel chapter 10 sheds a lot of light on the activities of angels and demons.  So, let’s discover what God’s Word has to say.

Dreadful. When a person encounters an angel that comes in humanoid form, the experience can be very frightening. This happened to the Roman guards that were assigned to protect the tomb of Jesus from intruders (Matthew 28:2-4). Although generally unobserved by humans, they are numerous, powerful, and real (Hebrews 12:22; 13:1; 2 Kings 19:35). They learn about the wisdom of God by observing Christians (Ephesians 3:10).

Demons. Some of the angels from the lower two categories (Ephesians 6:12; Colossians 1:16) were persuaded by Lucifer to follow him in his rebellion against God and to act independently of God (Isaiah 14:12-15; Ezekiel 28:12-10; Revelation 12:4). He tempts us to do the same thing today. But apart from Jesus we can do nothing (John 15:5). Demons are powerful and can inhabit the body of any unbeliever if they choose to do so (Luke 8:30). They can negatively influence and tempt Christians (Ephesians 6:12; Luke 22:31, 32), but they can’t indwell them (2 Corinthians 6:14-16).

Christophany. In the Old Testament times the pre-incarnate Son of God (the Lord Jesus Christ) appeared on several occasions as “The Angel of the Lord” to Abraham, Jacob, and Moses and others (Genesis 12:7-9; 16:7-14;18:1-33; Exodus 3:2-4:17; John 8:58). We believe that the One who appeared to the prophet Daniel was none other than the Son of God Himself (Daniel 10:4-9). See a similar description given to the Apostle John (Revelation 1:12-18). Notice their responses to this One.

Information. The prophet Daniel wanted to know more details about the suffering of the Jews in the days that followed the 70 year Babylonian captivity (Jeremiah 25:11; 29:10). Although they had been freed by the Persian (Iranian) King Cyrus to return to Israel (Ezra 1:1-4), most of the Jews chose to stay in Persia (Iran) and become “shop keepers” rather than “sheep keepers” as they had been in Israel.

Delayed Answer. Although an angel had been dispatched from God as soon as Daniel had made his request, he didn’t get to him until three weeks later. He had encountered a demon (fallen angel) who wanted to prevent him from giving to Daniel the information he had requested. So Michael the archangel came to the angel’s assistance and enabled him to finally get to Daniel with the message from God concerning the future suffering of the Jews.

Shock And Awe. So upsetting was the information that he could hardly believe it (Daniel 11). But he declared that it was to be believed because it came from God through an angel to him. Much of what was predicted by Daniel has already happened and can be verified by secular history. But what is still out in the future is even more distressing. It will be the final “holocaust” just before Christ returns to earth to set up His millennial kingdom. The information given to Daniel is amplified in the Book of Revelation.

Caution. We must be extremely careful today lest we be deceived by a fallen angel (demon) or by a false teacher who may appear as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). God is not giving out any new revelation (information) today. He hasn’t done so since the Apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation. We have all that God wants us to have in the 66 books of the Bible (2 Peter 1:3, 4). Don’t follow those who add to or subtract from the Word of God (Revelation 22:18, 19).

Satan’s Kingdoms. When he encountered Jesus in the wilderness, the devil made a legitimate offer to Him. He offered to Him the kingdoms of this world (that he owns and controls now- 2 Corinthians 4:4) if only Jesus would bow down and worship Him (Matthew 4:9). Had Jesus done this, He could have avoided the painful cross. But it wasn’t God the Father’s plan for Jesus to get control of the kingdoms of this world that way. First He would need to die for the sins of all mankind, rise bodily from the dead, and offer salvation to sinners for a limited time (2 Corinthians 6:2). There are no second opportunities to be saved once you die (Hebrews 9:27). Where will you spend eternity? Are you absolutely sure?

Return. At the appointed time Jesus will return to this earth and take the kingdoms of this world by force from Satan and then cast him and his followers into the lake of fire to suffer forever (Matthew 25:41, 46; Revelation 19:16; 20:1-10). You don’t have to end up with him and his followers if you will place your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ exclusively. Stop trusting in any of your good works (Ephesians 2:8, 9; Titus 3:5)!

Extent. How much longer will the Jews continue to suffer at the hands of God’s enemies? Sadly, it will go on until Jesus Christ (Messiah) returns to rescue the believing Jewish remnant at the end of the seven years of the tribulation (“the time of Jacob’s trouble” – Jeremiah 30:7; Zechariah 12; 14). God’s time clock with the Jews will resume when the Antichrist confirms a peace treaty with the Jews for seven years (Daniel 9:27). This will happen shortly after the true church has been caught up to meet the Lord in the air (John 14:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Romans 11:25). Are you ready for this event? It’s imminent. “Perhaps Today” in spite of what the mockers say (2 Peter 3:3-9).

Replaced? The church has not replaced the Jews. Both groups are distinct in God’s eyes (1 Corinthians 10:32). There will be a believing Jewish remnant that will repent and turn to God and be saved (Zechariah 12:10; Romans 10:13; Matthew 21:9; 23:39). Those people and nations who mistreat the Jews will experience God’s judgment (Genesis 12:1-3; Romans 12:19). Pray that our people and leaders don’t do this to the Jews.

Destiny. Like a ship headed for a specific destination, so God’s plan for the Jews and His plan for the church cannot be thwarted. The believing Jews have been promised the earth (Matthew 5:5). Do you know how much territory they will get in the future (Genesis 15:18)? Jesus also said, “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). Do you belong to it? Are you absolutely sure you will go to heaven the moment you die (1 John 5:13; Philippians 3:20)? Why should God let you into it? Is there anything you could do or fail to do that would cause you to lose your salvation? If so, what would that be?

Victorious. Every Christian can/should be victorious over the temptations that Satan or his demons hurl at us. We don’t have to be ignorant of his devices (2 Corinthians 2:11). What do you know about the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17)? Are you tired of being Satan’s victim (2 Timothy 2:26)? Would you, as a Christian, like spiritual help to live victoriously? If so, ask.

“Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound – Look up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane, no… it’s Superman.”

Back in the late 1930s America was plagued with crime, an economic collapse, and the fear of war was on people’s minds. The mob terrorized businesses and hard working people.  What could be done? We needed someone who was for truth, justice, and the American way.  Superman was just what we needed; he filled our citizens with hope.

Today.  We, and the rest of the world, face a similar crisis in our day.  We desperately need someone who can solve the middle east conflict and keep the nations from blowing each other up with their weapons of mass destruction that would kill millions of people in a matter of a few minutes.

Back In Time.  Believe it or not, one of God’s prophets addressed this issue about 2,500 years ago.  Daniel, who had interpreted enigmas for two Kings in Babylon later served under King Darius in the Medo-Persian Empire (modern day Iran). Daniel wanted to know what would happen to his people, the Jews, after their 70 year captivity in Babylon was over.

Take A Break.  Do you know why they were held as captives in Babylon?  It had to do with their failure to take a break every week and failing to let the land have a break every seven years (Exodus 20:8; 2 Chronicles 36:21).  In answer to Daniel’s prayer, God sent the angel Gabriel to give him some information that has been called “The Backbone Of Bible Prophecy” (Daniel 9:24-27).  This prophecy seems to be unfolding right before our eyes as the stage gets set up for some dramatic events to take place. The Bible predicted hard times like this.  Superman (the impostor) may be waiting in the wings disguised like Clark Kent was in his suit and tie.  How will his identity be discovered?  Who is the real Superman?  When will he come on the scene to crush the impostor and his assistant (Revelation 19:20)?

Annihilation. The Jews in Israel today are threatened once again with annihilation from their neighbors around them, especially from the President in Iran. Did you know that there is a way for him to accomplish his objective if he does this first?  Read Jeremiah 31:35-37.  What can/should the Jews do (2 Chronicles 7:14) and what should the United States and the rest of the world do (Psalm 2)?  What will all the nations of the world do to the Jews and what will be the outcome of it all (Revelation 16:16; Zechariah 12, 14)?  Ignoring the problem only makes the situation more dangerous. Appeasing the enemy isn’t working. Do you know how it is all going to turn out in the end?  Read Revelation 19 – 21.  Will you be on the winning side?

Hated. Why do some many nations and people hate the Jews? Could it be because the devil hates the people whom God chose to be the conveyors of His truth to mankind (2 Peter 1:21), and because the Jews provided the world with a Savior who could take them out of the devil’s kingdom (Matthew 1:21; Colossians 1:13)?

Enemies.  Satan has been God’s enemy ever since he rebelled against Him; he wanted to be independent of God (Isaiah 14; Ezekiel 28). The devil’s children (1 John 3:9, 10) don’t like to obey God or be held accountable to Him either. That’s why so many people choose to believe in the improbable theory of evolution. Animals don’t sin; they just act according to their instincts. If man is just an advanced animal, why should he be held accountable for his actions, especially if his own view of right and wrong doesn’t line up with other’s viewpoints?  Why do our legislators enact laws?  Who says you can’t legislate morality?  They do.

Purpose. God has a reason for allowing the Jews to suffer for as long as they have over the centuries. He spells out six things in Daniel 9:24 that need to take place before the Jews can inherit the land that God promised to give to them. It extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the Euphrates River (Genesis 15:18).  They will get it all during Christ’s millennial reign on earth (Matthew 5:5).  The desert will blossom like a rose, the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and there will be peace on earth for 1,000 years (Isaiah 2:4; 11:6; 35:1; Revelation 20:1-7).

Holocaust. As sad as it is to say, the upcoming “time of Jacob’s [Israel’s] trouble” will be far worse than all the suffering the Jews have experienced in the past (Jeremiah 30:7). But a believing remnant will survive the holocaust and enter the kingdom on earth that was promised to them centuries ago (Daniel 2:44, 45: Matthew 10:22; Romans 11:26). Yes, the Jews in Christ’s day believed in and were looking for a literal kingdom on earth before eternity future begins.  They were what we would call “Premillennialists.”  By the way, this must happen or the devil will win the conflict of the ages and God will be considered a cruel liar like the devil (Matthew 5:18; John 8:44).

Seventy Sevens. They are called “seventy weeks” (Daniel 9:24). We believe that they are weeks of years rather than weeks of days.  They add up to 490 years during which time some very specific things have happened and will happen. The coming of the Jew’s Messiah was predicted precisely (Zechariah 9:9; Matthew 21:1-10). The destruction of Herod’s Temple took place in A.D. 70. The timing of the coming “Antichrist” was also predicted when he will do his destructive work during the last seven years (Daniel 9:27; Revelation 12) known as the “Tribulation.”

Deliverance.  We believe that the true Church will not enter the seven years of the Tribulation that is coming to this earth (1 Thessalonians 1:10; 5:9; Revelation 3:10). But until the Rapture takes place (1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17) the Christians who live godly lives will suffer persecution at the hands of the devil’s children who often pose as God’s children (2 Timothy 3:12; Philippians 1:29).

Questions. Are you sure you’ll go to heaven the moment you die? Why should God let you into heaven? If you believe that you are going to heaven, is there anything you could do or fail to do that could cause you to lose your salvation? The Apostle Peter told people to make their call and election sure (2 Peter 1:10). Do you need assurance? Is it possible to be sure you’ll go to heaven even before you die?  What does it mean to “believe in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:2)?

If you need spiritual help, we invite you to contact us at 805-238-3549 or visit our web site at  We have “God’s Simple Plan Of Salvation” in 24 languages and help for new Christians to grow. Our “Blogs” are usually a written summary of our Sunday talks which can also be heard on the Internet.

Most of us who went to Sunday School as children probably heard the story of Daniel in the lions’ den. But have you ever wondered why this Jewish man was in Persia (Iran) at that time? Why did the Jews have to spend 70 years in Babylon (Iraq) as slaves? Why didn’t Daniel and Esther go back to Israel when the Persian (Iranian) king, Cyrus set them free?

Childhood. What kind of training had Daniel received as a boy? How did this affect his decision once he got to the “University of Babylon”? What significant decision did he make that could have jeopardized his and the lives of his friends? What resulted from the decision he and his friends made? Why were his three friends thrown into a furnace of fire?

Dreams.  Why did King Nebuchadnezzar demand that his wise men to tell him his dream and interpret it?  What was God trying to teach Nebuchadnezzar from this dream?  What world empires were described that have come and gone?  What will the final world empire of man look like?  Who will govern it and for how long?  Are we seeing the formation of this one world government, one world religion, and one world economic system?

Change.  When will the kingdoms of men come tumbling down?  Then what?  Will there ever be lasting peace on earth?  How will it be achieved?  What changes must take place first?  What kind of government will regulate people’s lives during that time?  Who will be in positions of authority?

Lessons. What valuable lessons can we learn from a book that was written about 2,600 years ago? Is it reliable?  Are the skeptics right when they say that this book was written after the facts, not before they happened?  Does God really know the future as He does the past? How should we interpret Bible prophecy – literally or allegorically? Who started the allegorical method of interpretation that completely changes the meaning of words?

Garden Of Eden. Believe it or not, the allegorical method of interpreting God’s Word started back in the Garden of Eden when Satan said to Eve, “Did God really mean what He said?” After eating the fruit, she found out that God said what He meant, and meant what He said. Suffering and death in the world today stem from failing to take God at His Word literally.

Church Fathers.  Sadly, many of the “Church Fathers” used the allegorical method of interpretation to the detriment of the church and to the Jewish community.  The “Holocaust” came about because of a faulty method of interpretation by many of the groups within “Christendom.”  Will there be another, greater “Holocaust”?  Yes!  Do you know when this will happen and why?

Prophecy.  Did you know that about ¼ of the Bible, at the time of its writing, was prophetic in nature? Since the prophecies concerning Christ’s first coming were fulfilled literally, we believe that the prophecies concerning His second coming should be interpreted the same way. What do you know about “Things To Come”?

Purpose.  In order for God to fulfill His purpose for history, what three things must happen?  Why is it so important that there be a literal 1,000 reign of Christ on earth before eternity future begins? Who will inhabit the millennial earth?  What will the conditions on earth be like at that time?  What happens at the end of the 1,000 years?
